AST/HKST manufactures pressure transmitters for hazardous locations, including explosion-proof, non-incendive and intrinsically safe areas. These three classifications each have their own unique product lines to support their applications.
Single Seal Approval
All hazardous location products are available with CSA Single Seal Approval. Under ANSI 12.27.01-2003, pressure instrumentation in Canada requires a single seal or dual seal approval. Dual Seal devices require a secondary device to protect against a rupture of the transmitter's diaphragm.
Single Seal pressure transmitters do not require a secondary device. To achieve the approval, AST/HKST's pressure sensors were tested to withstand the burst pressure requirements by CSA.

The most popular output signals are 4-20mA and 1-5V. 4-20mA is a common output signal that is usable with most modern PLC's. It can also travel long distances. A 1-5V output signal offers the benefit of lower current consumption. For applications that are powered by a solar panel in a remote site, 1-5V output signals help preserve the battery to ensure continuous operation.

AST/HKST currently offers three products for non-incendive applications: AST4300, AST4310, and the AST43LP. These products will need conduit installed over the cable or into the DIN43650A mating connector.

The AST4300 pressure transmitter is the standard offering. It is available with pressure ranges from -14.7 to 10,000 PSI. Options such as sealed gauge and heavier gauge wire are available within this product family.
The AST4310 series offer the same pressure ranges, but with zero and span adjustability. For many compressor panel applications, the integrator prefers the ability to adjust the zero and span to precise readings. With the AST4310, the customer can adjust the range up to five percent (5%) of the full span.
The AST43LP product was added to the product line in order to offer low pressure measurements to the AST/HKST customer base. With pressure ranges of 0-1 to 15 PSIG, the AST43LP completes the non-incendive product family.

The Intrinsically Safe rating currently covers six AST/HKST products.
The AST4400, AST4410, and AST44LP series offer the same features and benefits as the AST43xx family with two exceptions. Rather than the requirement to install a conduit over a cable, intrinsically safe transmitters need the sensor installed with an approved barrier. Non-Incendive products offer the cost savings of no barrier requirement, where as intrinsically safe products offer flexibility in the electrical connection options, including cable and the M12x1 Eurofast connector.
AST/HKST also offers submersible level sensors with Intrinsically safe ratings. The AST4500 is primarily used for deep well applications, with pressure ranges above 15 PSI. The AST4510 is commonly installed for tank level monitoring for pressure ranges from 0-1 to 15 PSIG. The AST4520 series is used for monitoring level of viscous media in areas such as waste water treatment plants.
